Gili Ketapang : Beautiful Hidden Place of Probolinggo

Gili Ketapang Island is a small island located between the islands of Java and Madura. The island is located 5 miles in the middle of the sea from the Port of Tanjung Tembaga Probolinggo. Unfortunately for now there is no connecting bridge connecting the two islands. In addition, there are still no passenger ships operating in the area. However, if tourists want to visit the island, tourists can use a small motor boat to get there. The number of motorboats is still very limited.

The area of Gili Ketapang is around 68 ha, most of the inhabitants are descendants of Madurese who live as fishermen. The origin of this island is inseparable from the myth of the people who say that the island can move to the middle of the sea. The island was originally located on the same land as the mainland in the village of Ketapang. Then after the eruption of Mount Semeru, the mainland in Ketapang Village finally split and separated from each other. One of these separated mainland forms small islands and one of them is Gili Ketapang Island. The name Gili Ketapang comes from the Madura language where Gili means flow and Ketapang is the name of the village when it was still united.

So that when interpreted Gili Ketapang means Ketapang that flows. In fact, according to public belief, until now the location of Gili Ketapang is slowly drifting out to sea. In this small island you will find a beautiful charm that will make you chuckle when you see it. Because here there are religious tourism and nature tourism that is still maintained its authenticity. That is because the island is located far from the Java Island crossing lane. The beach waves on this island are quite calm, complete with a stretch of white sand that stretches wide, the color of the sea water that looks blue, and friendly locals make the atmosphere of Gili Ketapang Tourism feel very peaceful and pleasant.

To cross to Gili Ketapang we can travel by motorboat at a rate of Rp 10,000 / passenger one way with a distance of about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, to enjoy activities such as snorkeling, it is better for you to use tour package services with a tariff of Rp 100,000 / person complete with PP crossing facilities, life jackets, snorkeling sets, underwater documentation, guides and lunch.

Gili Ketapang is a white sandy island with blue sea views. There you can do light activities like walking along the beach from end to end, relaxing in the gazebo, swimming by the beach and of course snorkeling. Gili Ketapang has a wealth of underwater that is very charming. Noted there are 3 snorkeling locations that you can enjoy, including 1 spot on the south side and 2 spots on the southwest of the island or each one is only about 100 m from the beach. Approximately 200 meters from the beach area is a snorkeling point that can be used to see various kinds of underwater beauty. Interestingly, the people around you are very familiar with tourism. Where, there are points that are used specifically for selfies.

Because the location is a bit difficult to reach, making this beautiful island very quiet, aka not many visitors stop by. The majority of residents who inhabit this island are mostly descendants of Madurese who work as fishermen.
